Individual membership

Membership of IPEd is open to:

  • anyone working professionally in print media or electronic publishing as an IPEd Accredited Editor, OR anyone who has an eligible qualification, and cumulative work experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional editing, and continuation of substantial and regular work as a professional editor OR anyone who has a cumulative work experience equivalent to two years of full-time professional editing, as assessed from submitted CV, and continuation of substantial and regular work as a professional editor, as attested to by the applicant may be eligible forprofessional membership
  • anyone with an interest in editing and publishing, OR a person whose work includes an element of editing, but who does not meet Professional criteria, including substantial, regular and ongoing editorial work is eligible forassociate membership
  • students, full time or part time, enrolled in an eligible course, and who is not eligible for Professional membership can apply forstudent membership

  • be offered discounted rates for training events held by our international partners, such as the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) in the UK
  • receive job advertisements and industry news, nationally and by state, via regular email communication and newsletters
  • be informed of editing prize and scholarship opportunities

  • have access to other member-only resources on the national website, including papers from past conferences, articles about editing and IPEd’s brochure on editing (iped-editors.org)

Applying for membership

  • Professional membership $180 p.a.
    (plus
    $40 for listing in the national Editors Directory)

Professional members should have an eligible qualification, have been engaged in cumulative work equivalent to one year of full-time professional editing and have worked regularly as a professional editor OR engaged professionally in editing for publication for at least two years full time or equivalent. Applications need to be supported by a CV and at least two referees confirming your professional editorial experience.

Editors who qualify as IPEd Accredited Editor, Distinguished Editor or who hold BELS or SfEP full membership will automatically qualify for professional membership.

  • the right to vote or take office in IPEd

Associate membership          $135 p.a.

Anyone with an interest in editing and publishing OR anyone whose work includes an element of editing, but who does not meet Professional criteria, including substantial, regular and ongoing editorial work can be an associate member.

  • copies of branch newsletter
  • member rates on professional development workshops.

Student membership          $65 p.a.

Students must provide evidence to show they are enrolled full time in a university or appropriate private college editing course during the calendar year of membership.  Student members are entitled to the same benefits as associate members.
