Hiring an Editor

The Editorial Services Directory provides details of professional members in NSW and the ACT who are available for freelance or contract work. As well as publishing the directory, the branch also provides a free email-to-professional-members service for positions vacant.

You can advertise through the branch and reach a significant proportion of editors locally. We contact professional editors who are branch members by email, so you are assured of wide distribution among your target audience.

If you wish to extend the reach to incorporate editors nationally, the Editors Directory lists all those editors who are available for freelance and contract work nationally.

To use the free email-to-professional-members service, send your advertisement to jobs@editorsnsw.com and it will be distributed by email to  professional members within 48 hours, either nationally or locally as requested.

We welcome advertisements for all editorial roles from trainee to publisher, for permanent, temporary or freelance jobs, as well as any entry-level positions. If you have questions, contact the branch administration manager on 02 9294 4999 (voicemail) or at the email above.

Briefing editors

Editors can work for an hourly rate or a negotiated fee. The Editorial Services Directory describes the range of services available and offers advice about hiring an editor.

Editing a thesis

A policy on editing research theses by professional editors was developed in 2004 by the Deans and Directors of Graduate Studies (DDOGS) in conjunction with the Council of Australian Societies of Editors (CASE), now known as the Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd). See the IPEd website.
