Experience: Established in 2002, clear communications has provided editorial and proofreading services for a wide range of clients including Random House, Scholastic Australia, Little Hare Books, Weldon Owen, Limelight Press, NSW Minerals Council, Performa Global, Sydney West Area Health Service (NSW), 2nd Road, emap Australia, Laguna Bay Publishing, Derwent Howard, Pearson Education, ING and Clayton Utz. In addition, it has provided major editorial support to many individual authors preparing manuscripts for submission to publishers.

Russell currently works as an in-house contract editor for HarperCollinsPublishers and ABC Books and is the proofreader for Good Reading Magazine. In 2008 he was a part-time subeditor for POL Corporate Publications and worked in-house for four years as an editor and proofreader for Scholastic Australia. His background includes marketing and promotions for the ABC, extensive experience in performing arts management and corporate communications for local government.

Peter works as a freelance editor and proofreader. He has fifteen years experience as a teacher of English to speakers of other languages and worked for many years in the performing arts, as actor, writer and director.

QualificationsRussell: Diploma in Book Editing and Publishing, Macleay College. He has also completed numerous professional development workshops with the Society of Editors (NSW), and for several years assisted with the coordination of the society’s workshop program.

Peter: BA (Hons) English Lit, Diploma in Education, Cert TESOL and a Diploma in Book Editing and Publishing, Macleay College.

Computer capability: PC and Mac, Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe CS, broadband cable.

Services offered: All levels of editing, proofreading and plain English rewriting.

Type of material: We handle a wide range of documents – advertising copy, business letters and reports, newsletters, promotional material including brochures, flyers and press releases, website copy, fiction, general nonfiction, children’s books, educational texts and instruction manuals, magazines, film scripts and poetry.

Special skills/interests: While having extensive experience in adult publishing, both fiction and non-fiction, Russell’s work for ABC Books, Little Hare Books, Scholastic and Laguna Bay Publishing has given him broad experience in editing books for young readers – picture books as well as fiction and nonfiction. He has also proofread over 50 books for Random House, including works by David Malouf, Don Watson, Christopher Koch, Luke Devinish and David Stratton.

As well as experience in all areas, Peter’s background as an English language teacher gives him a special insight into editing and plain English rewriting for writers whose first language is not English.
